FRV and Dalkia Solar install 2.6 MW photovoltaic rooftop facility in Alicante

19/05/2010

Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) and Dalkia Solar have inaugurated in the town of Ibi, in Alicante, a rooftop photovoltaic solar plant of 1.2 MWp. Also in the province of Alicante, FRV has started up another similar installation of 1.4 MWp in the town of Onil.
The facility, owned by FRV, is its first project on an industrial rooftop in Spain. The plant has been designed, planned and built by Dalkia Solar which will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the installations in the future.
The plants at Ibi and Onil cover an area of 54,000 m2 distributed over five industrial buildings. The 9,408 photovoltaic solar panels mounted on a fixed structure with an inclination of 30º will have an estimated annual production of more than 3.9 million kWh. This production is equal to the electricity necessary to supply a population of 3,500 inhabitants, which represents the consumption equivalent to 15% of the town of Ibi. As far as CO2 emissions to the atmosphere are concerned, the dispersion of more than 2 million tonnes of the main cause of the greenhouse effect will be avoided.
The locations of Ibi and Onil were chosen, among other reasons, because of their high solar radiation index, one of the highest in the Iberian Peninsula. Each year they receive more than 1500 kWh/m2 and 1600 kWh/m2, respectively.
